I can't get away!

I don't seem to be able to get away from 3D cards!

I have had this Mattie Crown Border Stencil for a while and wanted to use it so here is yet another 3D card. The 3D sheets seem to go with the stencils so much better than stamped and colored images! The sheet is one I bought from England.

I have started using Silicone glue for dimension rather than using the tape. There is an up side and a down side. The upside is that it is quicker to put dots of Silicone than it is to cut tiny bits of dimensional tape and because the silicone is nearly clear you don't see it from the side. The downside is that it takes a while to dry so you have to be careful where you sit the card down so that you don't accidentally put your hand or something else on it and flatten it! Hmm.... I wonder how I know this!

I traced around the stencil and the cut out parts, embossed it and then cut it out. On the center panel at the top and bottom I used just a small portion of the stencil to emboss.

Birthday Stripes

I loved the colors in this striped paper and as luck would have it I had a 3D sheet from Nicki in my stash that matched perfectly. I chose not to make this card 3D so I just used the base image. The Nestabilities labels 4 are fast becoming a favorite!

Two for One

I fell in love with the DP that I used for these two cards. They are similar but I picked different colors from the DP for the card base and a different sentiment.

The sentiment I used for this card is from a set of six from Hero Arts.

The sentiment on this card is from a $1 clear set from Michaels. The pink jewel on each card is from the $1 bin at Michaels.

Roses Are.....Pink

I know I have gone back on what I said I was going to do which was get back to stamping!

When you dry emboss with a stencil and light box the cardstock has to be light enough in color that you can see the stencil or you have to do it 'blind'....... by feel. I am not there yet! This card came about by trying the pale pink paper to see if I could see the stencil through it on the light box and also because I wanted to experiment with chalking the embossing.

The picture does not do the card justice. The colors are looking faded, they are much prettier than they look! The stencil I used is a Classics Emily. After embossing I used a Q-tip to add a deeper pink chalk to the embossing before removing the stencil and doing the cutting. The 3D sheet is from Nikki's Crafts in England. I found that it was much less expensive to order from this site than to order from here in the US. The service was excellent and shipping was less than many sites in the US charge. I always love a bargain!

Sweet Violets

I bought a new...to me...Nestabilities and some new papers so I combined them to make this card.

I used the Nestabilities Labels 4 in 2 sizes to cut and emboss the frame and then inked the inside and outside edges. Using the larger die I cut a label from the striped paper and glued the frame to it. I stamped the image, from Hampton Art Stamps, and then using a smaller die cut it out, inked the edges and colored it using colored pencils and OMS. The image panel and the frame panel are raised with dimensional tape.

Sweet Pea

The challenge this week on Crafty Card Creators Yahoo group is to make a card for a baby. This is my card for that challenge.

I used green and lavender so that the card can be used for a boy or girl. To make the bib I used Nestabilities oval and scalloped ovals to cut the shapes. After adhering the ovals together I used a round hole punch to cut out the neck opening and trimmed off a couple of scallops and cut the top edge straight. I used a white gel pen to add dots to the scalloped border.

The Welcome stamp is an old one from Stampin Up and the Sweet Pea stamp is a $1 stamp from
Michael's. The stamp has the pea next to the words so I used a black marker to color the part of the stamp I wanted to use and then cleaned it off and colored the other part. You don't have to use your stamps exactly as they come! When using a marker on a stamp you have to huff on it after you color it because the ink dries really fast. The baby and the pea are colored with pencils.

Just because

I bought a new MS punch and butterfly stamps so I just had to use them together!

I colored the butterfly and cut it out. ( I cut off the antenna and drew them in afterwards) The front of the card base is covered with swiss dot paper from Doodlebug. I used a new punch from MS and did the border then Then used the Scor-Pal to score a couple of lines and using a dot embossing folder from Cuttlebug 'Just My Type' I embossed 3 times. I then scored a couple of lines below the embossing and cut the paper. With another piece of white I scored two lines at the top and bottom and stamped the sentiment which is a #1 stamp from Michaels. I used the border punch again and cut four butterflies from the dotted paper. I curved the wings of the butterfly, glued down the body and then used dimensional tape beneath the wings.

Challenge card

This is a card I made for the weekly challenge on Crafty Card Creators. The challenge was to use the provided digital stamp and spots on your card.

I don;t know if you can see it very well but the tiny spots on the darker blue paper are the same color as the boy's pants. The papers are from a mat stack from DCWV Holiday Collection..The Winter Matstack. I used a Martha Stewart edge punch and colored the image with Prismacolor pencils.

A Cup of Flowers

I think this is going to be my last 3d card for a while. I need to start using some of my stamps that have never seen ink!

Again I used one of the new stencils I bought, Marianne Designs EH 1833 open passe-partout peacock. I made up the 3d image a while ago and I am not sure where I got it. Instead of a bow I tied the ribbon in knots in 3 places and attached it to the card with mini glue dots. In wedding bouquets you will sometimes see narrow ribbon tied in knots hanging from the bouquet. They are called 'love knots' in the business.

Miss Kitty

I am collecting many more cards than I can use so........I would like to send one card a week as a RAK. If you would like to be on my mailing list to receive a card EMAIL ME PRIVATELY with your name and mailing address. My email address is in my profile. Do not put your information in the comments. Your name and address will be kept private to be used by me only to pick a random winner for the week.

At the invitation of my friend Gloria I accepted a challenge from this blog. The challenge was to use this Miss Kitty image which was provided as a digital image and to use stripes somewhere on the card. This is what I came up with. A little out of my comfort zone as I don't very often do cute!

Wedding flowers and RAK

The jury is still out on this one. I don't know if I like it or not. Maybe that is what happens when you start out with nothing specific in mind.

I was trying to use a corner stencil in a different way so I turned the corner to the middle but that just gave me some bare corners that I had to fill. I used white wedding flowers, they come in different colors by the bucket, from the wedding section at Michael's. I used Marvy markers to color them, two for each corner, and joined them with a brad to a white square which was them mounted to a green square. In the center of the card is a green jewel that I found in the $ bin at Michael's.

Out Of My Comfort Zone

I am still having fun using my new stencils! I went way out of my comfort zone with this one by using my least favorite color, which is anything in the orange family.

The stencil I used is Embossing Romance EH 1842. There are two different corners on the stencil leaving room for lots of possibilities. After tracing around the corner I wanted to use I then turned the stencil and repeated that corner. After embossing and cutting out I glued different papers to show through the cuts and then mounted the white layer onto a green card base.
The 3d sheet is one from my stash. I tried something different with this one. Instead of using dimensional tape I used dimensional silicone glue that I found at Hobby Lobby. The verdict is still out on how well I like it. I put some in a syringe and liked how easy it is to use but the big thing is the drying time. I am not very patient when it comes to waiting for things to dry. I may just try to find silicone that dries a little faster and then I think I will like it!

For The Birds

I am thinking Spring and hoping.............

I used another of the stencils I bought. This time it is the open oval. After embossing and cutting out I backed the open spaces with a scrap piece of designer paper. I used one part of the stencil to emboss the corners of the turquoise layer and rounded the corners. The 3d is from a sheet in my stash.

I hope everyone is staying warm and will join me in hoping that Spring comes early this year!

Heart ATC

This is an ATC I made for a swap on Crafty Card Creators. The theme is hearts.

I used a new (to me) Marianne Designs mini stencil that I bought myself for Christmas :) The hearts are punched from scraps and the sentiment is from a clear set Small Tag Lines from Printworks.

Pansies

I am so tired of the cold and ready for Spring! The flowers that usually tide us over from winter into spring are pansies here in South Texas. They usually bloom right through the winter but I am not so sure this year as it has been much colder than normal.

For this top fold card I used an Anja style 1 embossing stencil. The rest I think is self explanatory. I got my order of new stencils so I am going to be having fun with them this weekend!

Irises

My first card of 2010 is a very special one for a very special lady who is recovering from a second mastectomy. Her favorite flowers are Irises.

This card won't be mailed but will be hand delivered so I went to town on the layering! There are 9 layers excluding the card base. I hope she likes it!

A look back.......My favorite cards from 2009

I saw this idea on another blog and thought it would be nice to show my 12 favorite cards from 2009. They are in no particular order. I like each one for a different reason.
